Italian term

follia

Italian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Si parla della follia descritta nelle opere di un artista. Mi servirebbe un termine mediamente formale ma non medico. Escluderei madness e mental illness, quest'ultimo perchè troppo forte come termine e troppo tecnico. Ho pensato ad INSANITY. Qualcuno può confermare?

Discussion

One possibility...

It depends on the actual context, but insanity could be a bit too severe for an artistic temperament.

Oh, OK in that case then insanity sounds appropriate to me. But if they are hospital patients, why not madness?
Scrap eccentricity!

To clarify my note, I think madness and insanity have much the same ring/tone to them. And in this case, they don\'t sound too medical or technical.
Peer comment(s):

agree Ian Burley (X) : Yes, madness or insanity. Eccentricty is too light.

neutral Donna Lynne Galletta : why not simply "folly"

I think folly might also be too light. Folly to me suggests eccentricity which given the context, just doesn't fit.
agree Alison Kennedy : I think madness or insanity is fine. Perhaps seeing other question "loss of reason"

Ciao Paola,

Another name for "insanity" is "delirium", but perhaps "delirancy" sounds less medical. Or, you could use the adjective, "delirious".

There's also "craziness".

Good luck,

Elena
