Italian term

Pistone strizzatura pneumatica/pistone torchiatura oleodinamica

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng Essential oils distillation
This is part of the same ongoing project for a company that manufactures natural pain remedies. They are describing a phytocomplex extraction process and this is also on a diagram of the equipment.

Is this a "pneumatic wringer/oil hydraulic press" plunger or piston or something else entirely?

Discussion

Elizabeth Lyons (asker) Feb 28, 2006:
Thank you Angela. The authors of this text are apparently unclear as to what the correct term for this piece of machinery is. The authors are cosmetic chemists and this description appears to third hand. I believe they have hired a manufacturer to extract and distill their essential oils from plants. It may be that they have it wrong and these are two completely separate machines and processes, but they list them on a diagram as two alternate ways to describe the drawing which clearly depicts one machine. I apologize in advance if this is confusing. I myself am somewhat confused about it! Thank you all.

Hi Elizabeth, I understand from a private message you sent that this is one item described with two names. I'd like that to be clear to all readers (unfortunately it wasn't to me) - this is one piece of equipment with a dual description.

I did some googling on how essential oils are produced and there are a number of methods, which include cold pressing (rather like olive oil).
Then I checked to see if they use hydraulic presses for this and they do.
I hope this is of some help - I suspect your authors may just mean their suppliers use a hydraulic press.
