a venue for meetings in the 1600s in the Val San Giacomo (northern Italy, near the Swiss border):

"nella stua appresso la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista"

Having googled this word, the contexts seem to indicate that it could an old term for some kind of room in a house, or even a stable maybe??

Sorry - \"panelled\"!!! And I know the sites are not well-translated, but they do give an explanation.
