Italian term

alterato

Italian to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Coronary angiography results
This word can have many translations. What is the correct translation of 'alterato' in this context?

"... la coronarografia dimostra una occlusione di un ramo marginale che si riesce a ricanalizzare che risulta diffusamente **alterato** e si tratta con angioplastica semplice ... "

And later:

" Il trapianto venoso e pervio, comunque si nota progressione della malattia coronarica con **alterazioni** parietali diffuse."

I can think of 'abnormal' (or 'abnormalities' for 'alterazioni'), changed, impaired, disturbed ... which of these is best used here -- or is there a more suitable term?
