Although I am not exectly sure if this is the correct translation, the fact is that these "postos" are used to connect up to the AC circuit on the trains to cool he carriages before the loco is attached. The exist at both ends of the comnposition and mean that the loco does not need to be attached until just before the train needs to leave. The rail-lexis gives some assistance on this point
