ranch and country estate
you might prefer country place instead of country estate, if the sitio is smallish and used more as a casual weekend retreat

in Brazil - \'sítio\' is nothing more than a \'weekend retreat\' - a house in the country/second home...
fazenda = farm [could be cattle ranch/commercial plantation/ ....] varies.. :)

I know people/lots in fact who have sítios/chácaras - call them by both names... neither necessarily 'functional in nature'..I agree sítio tends to be more often functional and chácara not...'rural property' covers both .. yes??

Ranch => fazenda....farm => sitio
in the cattle country in the western part of the state of São Paulo anything under 1000 'alqueires' is considered a 'sitio'You have to have more than 1000 'alqueires' to have a 'fazenda'
