hairstyles
This is about hairstyles at the time of Marie Antoinette.
"Heavy hand" doesn't sound right for a hairdresser. Thanks in advance for any help.

thanks to their bad graces
I.e. an antonym of "thanks to their good graces". If this is too heavy-handed (pun intended) in English, perhaps you can replace 'bad' with a better alternative.
Google turned up just a couple hits:
Thanks to the bad graces of Alzheimer's disease, I have become my mother's father.

: A good one. Would you also consider "thanks to their oh-not-so-good graces" as an option? ))

Comment: "Thanks Mikhail, and everybody else too. I don't think this is too heavy-handed -- it's just right, keeping the pun."

(The play / pun is in changing "light" to "heavy" and refers to the fact that the hats these women introduced were huge.)
