(walled) shade cloth-covered garden

The "fitotoldo" would be 'shade cloth' in English. I recently did a lot of shopping on the subject before purchasing one for my garden.

The answer above describes the situation in your text. Based on the definition, you could say 'walled, shade cloth-covered garden'.

I don't think greenhouse applies here. A greenhouse is structure in and of itself. It is defined as: 'a structure enclosed (as by glass) and used for the cultivation or protection of tender plants'. The plants are usually in containers arranged on shelves rather than planted in the ground.

neutral philgoddard : Except it's plastic, and a huerto is a kitchen garden.

Shade cloth is plastic. You wouldn't use a solid plastic sheet for an area that large. The prefix 'fito-"> phyto-, i.e., for plants. The standard "plant awning" is shade cloth. The context makes it clear that it's not a flower garden.

Vegetable garden with a shade canopy

Shade covers also slow evaporation of soil moisture, reduce heat build-up in ripening fruits, and cool the plant canopy by 4 to 5 degrees.

I have not looked, but you can browse these links to see if there is mention of greenhouses/shade cloth-covered canopies/vegetable gardens (which I am inclined to think given the nature of crops being grown), etc.

During our tour of her farm, Trinidad showed our group the many different crops she and her sister are currently growing: lettuce, which was brought by Sierra Productiva and that they now have all year round; several herbs used for tea and for cooking, including muña, an herb that treats gastritis, which they used to have to go further into the mountains to get; beets, carrots, and onions; lima beans; choclo, a type of corn with large kernels that is popular in Peru; and more. In their **greenhouse**, we saw grapes, lemons, cherry tomatoes, avocados, and peppers. Their livestock includes guinea pigs, chickens, and sheep. The greenhouse and livestock add much needed proteins and vitamins to their diet, which is significant in an area where the rate of malnutrition is 31.3% (Bellatín & Muñoz, 2012).

Inside the **greenhouse**, they use drip irrigation. The use of drip irrigation saves them time and water and allows them to have year-long production since it frees them from dependence on rain (Bellatín & Muñoz, 2012).
