Spanish term

filamentos de otate

Spanish to English Other Botany
From a text about crafts in Mexico:

En la penitenciaría de Guadalajara he visto canastos tejidos con hojas de palma o con filamentos de otate, de una forma muy elegante y decorados con vivísimos colores.

I don't need the technical name for this context...I suspect it is some sort of fiber from a reed or something
Thanks!

Mexican weeping bamboo fibers/strands

Declined
- baskets woven from palm leaves or Mexican weeping bamboo fibers/strands
- baskets woven from palm leaves or strands of Mexican weeping bamboo
Could also be:
- baskets woven from palm leaves or Otatea bamboo fibers/strands

I think strands or fibers would be a more natural translation for filamentos in this context.

English term or phrase: strand woven bamboo
Spanish translation: filamentos de bambú trenzados o entretejidos

English Names: Mexican weeping bamboo, otate bamboo
Scientific Name: Otatea acuminata aztecorum
Spanish Names: otate
(note: the above mentions "otate bamboo" but "Otatea bamboo" seems more common)
