"Mi pago es donde yo ando... ", respondió el carrero Montes, personaje de un cuento de Juan José Morosoli, a quien le preguntó de dónde era.
Y es verdad: los pagos en tanto entorno geográfico son paisajes rurales o urbanos pero además, y fundamentalmente, son paisajes humanos.
Geografia y sociedad caracterizadas por el respeto a la naturaleza y al semejante, actitud imprescindible para el desarrollo sustentable y la construcción democrática de las naciones.

I may be misinterpreting "andar" here, but if the rest of the context supports it, I'd interpret "andar" in the sense of being, hanging about, (dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres); as for pago, my hunch was backed up by the Oxford translation dictionary and I also found it here:Stop by and see me the next time you're in my neck of the woods. ... I'm not familiar with the expression, but this is my understanding. If you use 'reward', then it keys in the next sentence:

Sorry carol for picking up your phrase. I find it very good except for the "homeland". In the context of the "gauchos" and I assume in all south cone rural areas, I believe the Idea of home doesn't consider national boundaries but the place where the family and friends are, where one works and specially the place one goes to have fun and spend ones earnings. Its the social surrounding not the Patria. That's what I understand.
