Spanish term

ADMINISTRATIVA

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Short medical report
Context:

Short report on negative Mantoux test.

Under "Diagnosticos y Procedimientos" it says "ADMINISTRATIVA", followed by a series of letters and numbers in brackets. It is not obvious to me why "administrative" is in the feminine. What is it agreeing with? Does it just mean reference number?

Thanks if you can help.

Anne

Good point Neilmac. It is not likely to be crucial. I was just interested to see if someone knew for sure.
jude dabo Oct 4, 2014:
we are talking medics here.check below:Administrative Control-Any of the methods for managing patients with a potentially virulent or contagious infection—e.g., tuberculosis—which includes isolating them from others, expediting diagnostic workups, and treating them if they actually have the infection.Any sense?
neilmac Oct 4, 2014:
Do we really need to know? Admin is admin. Whether it refers to a process, a person or a department, my approach is that the people who do need to know 100% what it refers to here will be aware of its meaning.
Andy Watkinson Oct 3, 2014:
Can't understand the general consensus that it refers to a person.... and why does everyone take for granted its referring to a woman? Lab test reports don't usually contain the name of any individual - only the lab's details. Even if they did, they wouldn't assume the issuer's a woman. The consultant in question is already identified below. In ESP the default is masculine, anyway. It's obviously not a substantive but an adjective qualifying XXX. So what's XXX? Vía, alta, ficha, área, etc... administrativa.
Anne Bitton (asker) Oct 3, 2014:
OK, but I think administrator means the same really. I don't see a radical difference in English, and the advantage is that it is one word. I am stopping work now for a couple of days. Thanks!
Judith Armele Oct 3, 2014:
No, I wouldn't call it administrator because it's just an employee in charge of that task. If it is public, i would call it officer or administratiion officer.
Judith Armele Oct 3, 2014:
Anne Bitton (asker) Oct 3, 2014:
Spain. GENERALITAT VALENCIANA. In this case I wonder is "ADMINISTRATOR" would do the trick?
Judith Armele Oct 3, 2014:
From which country is it, Anne? I can assure you that in some places in Spanish you call administrativa or administrativo to the Employee in charge of some administrative stuff.
Anne Bitton (asker) Oct 3, 2014:
I think Judith is probably right. Perhaps I am over complicating. Perhaps it just reflects the fact that the administrative assistant who dealt with it was female? Perhaps the reference refers to a specific person.
Anne Bitton (asker) Oct 3, 2014:
It appears towards the end, after the person's name, age, date of consultation, fact that test was negative, etc.

More context Hi Anne,

Could you give more context around this term? Maybe place it within the heading where it appears and the surrounding text. Thanks!

neutral Joseph Tein : or even "administrative" ... although it still leaves us in the dark as to what it really refers to

Why do we need to know? The meaning of "admin" should be clear to those who do.

Administrative employee [in charge]

Administrativa in Spanish is used as a synonym of funcionaria.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Samuel Sebastian Holden Bramah : una administrativa puede ser del sector publico o privado, para nada es sinonimo de funcionario.

Si, normalmente funcionario es únicamente del sector público, pero algunas veces puede usarse como empleado del sector privado.
