Although "intravenous nutrition" can be used (as stated by charlotte), the term "parenteral nutrition" is much more common. In clinical practice, when the patient is not receiving any other nutrition, this is usually called "total parenteral nutrition" (TPN).

Thank you again, Muriel. Yes, you are right, parenteral alimentation and also parenteral feeding are both used with the same meaning, but I think nutrition is much more common in clinical practice.

neutral Philip Bazire (X) : Just to say your option is also valid and gets about as many hits as "intravenous nutrition" which you declined. Trouble is, parenteral nutrition get about 20 times as many hits on Google (>1,200,000). But I woudn't dream of saying you're dead wrong!

Good. Because "parenteral feeding" is not dead wrong, whereas "intravenous nutrition" is dead wrong.
