Spanish term

making sense of it

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
I have read this through numerous times now and it is just not clear to me. I have included a draft and hope that someone can help me make sense of it.

In a second 14-day oral dose-determination study in male rats with PLA-695 in the Capryol/Solutol/Cremophor vehicle, PLA-695 was administered at doses of 300, 600 or 1000 mg/kg/day in an undiluted vehicle formulation at 1, 5, 3, 5 mL/kg dose volumes of the undiluted vehicle at 300, 600 and 1000 mg/kg/day respectively, and doses of 300 or 600 mg/kg/day in a formulation of the vehicle diluted in water (7.5% to 9.375% of Capryol 90, 11.2% to 14.06% of Cremophor EL, 11.25% to 14.06% of Solutol HS 15 and Type 1 purified water) at 4 and 8 mL/kg dose volumes of the vehicle diluted in water at 300 and 600 mg/kg/day, respectively.

Many thanks

Discussion

Can't you just give Lia the points? The original suffers from dodgy Spanish punctuation (par for the course in this type of text) and syntax.
Lia Fail (X) Jul 7, 2007:
In a second 14-day oral dose-determination study in male rats for PLA-695 in the Capryol/Solutol/Cremophor vehicle, PLA-695 was administered as follows:

as a dose of 300, 600 or 1000 mg/kg/day in an undiluted vehicle formulation at 1.5, 3 and 5 mL/kg dose volumes of the undiluted vehicle at 300, 600 and 1000 mg/kg/day respectively,

and

as a dose of 300 or 600 mg/kg/day in a water-diluted vehicle formulation (7.5% to 9.375% of Capryol 90, 11.2% to 14.06% of Cremophor EL, 11.25% to 14.06% of Solutol HS 15, and Type 1 purified water) at 4 and 8 mL/kg dose volumes of the water-diluted vehicle at 300 and 600 mg/kg/day, respectively.
Lia Fail (X) Jul 7, 2007:
How about this, just broken up a bit (using a colon), and using a parallel structure for both sub-phrases (the new lines are justs to facilitate things for you):
Adam Burman (asker) Jul 7, 2007:
You are right Lia - a bit much really (I tried to ask nicely :O)
You have cleared up one issue with the decimal point - many thanks.
Lia Fail (X) Jul 7, 2007:
That's a bit of a tall order:-) You have the full context and are immersed in the text in a way we'll never be:-) However, I'm sure it's 1.5, 3 and 5 not 1,5, 3, 5 mL/kg
Vepalm Jul 7, 2007:
1, 5, 3, 5.. in english "," is substituted by a ".".

It is not very good english but the reason is the original. See if now it makes sense for you:

"In a second study of 14-day in male- rats with determination of oral doses using PLA-695 in Capryol/Solutol/Cremophor vehicle, the PLA-695 being administered at doses of 300, 600 or 1000 mg/kg/day in an undiluted vehicle formulation with dose volumes of 1.5, 3,.5 mL/kg of the undiluted vehicle for 300, 600 and 1000 mg/kg/day respectively, and at doses of 300 or 600 mg/kg/day in a formulation with the vehicle diluted in water (7.5% to 9.375% of Capryol 90, 11.2% to 14.06% of Cremophor EL, 11.25% to 14.06% of Solutol HS 15 and Type 1 purified water) at 4 and 8 mL/kg dose volumes of the vehicle diluted in water for 300 and 600 mg/kg/day, respectively."
Note from asker:
Thank you very much for having a go at this one Vepalm - also, you are completely right about the decimal point (should have spotted that really). Thanks again!!
