Hi, I'm working on a literary text that references "literatura ganada" several times.
For example: "Al final de la dictadura comenzaron a publicarse colecciones destinadas al público juvenil, alimentadas sobre todo de traducciones, con títulos procedentes tanto de las nuevas corrientes europeas como de la literatura “ganada”."
I see that literatura ganada refers to works that were not originally written for children but were eventually considered appropriate for them. I've seen "earned literature" in some texts but I don't feel convinced. Does anyone know of an established term for this or a succinct way of explaining it?
Thanks!

appropriated literature
This is used to refer to literature that is taken from one category (another age group, another country/language) and adopted by another.
As Cline and McBride maintain, these books are cases where the children of the time appropriated books originally intended for adults.

A lot of books were “appropriated” (Beckett, p. 17) for children for
example by republishing the books in a format appropriate for children such as an
abridged version or adaptations of the books.

These examples are all taken from academic papers. Would this work for your document?

: It doesn't matter what term you use, as long as you define it the first time you do so.

: this seems most likely, and I'd opt for academic papers any day. Also, can't help thinking it DOES matter what term you use!

literature that has been mainstreamed into children's reading lists
added to their reading lists...at one time, such works might have been best sellers or classical literature that were thought to be more appropriate for adults, based on what might have been thought to be too sexually suggestive or explicit for young readers

Matthew McDonald
: I prefer "adopted" over "appropriated" since it seems like with "appropriated," the literature has been usurped by someone. I know it's a bit of an unconventional explanation.
