So mine could be used, meaning grants for first-time researchers, but it could also be interpreted as grants for an Introduction to Research course (which if I'm honest is how I interpreted the Spanish).
"Start-up" to me implies the student has an idea to research but needs funding to 'start it all up', which doesn't seem to be the case, or is one step too specific.
Perhaps something more explanatory would be in order, like, 'research grants for undergraduate or undergraduate students'?
