vessels trim

2)
a) What is trim. How is the vessels trim decided?

b) A cargoship in saltwater has draught forward = draught aft = 7.12 m.
What is the vessels trim?
The corresponding MCT for this draught is 646 tm/cm. How many tons must be transferred internally onboard to change the trim with 1.0 m?

3)
Given a ship floating with an even keel draught T=8.0 m, length L=95.0 m and block coefficient cb=0.70.
The waterplane has the following half-breaths in meters:
Station no. 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 8.5 9 9.5 10
Half-breath 4.0 5.2 6.1 6.8 7.0 7.0 7.0 7.0 7.0 6.8 5.4 4.3 3.1 1.8 0.0
The density of seawater is given as 1.025 t/m3.
a) Draw a sketch of this waterplane.
b) Calculate the waterplane area Aw in m2 by the use of Simpson`s 1.st rule.
Comment the accuracy of the calculated value for Aw. Is it 100% accurate?
Use the results from this calculation in the rest of this coursework.
c) Calculate the waterplane coefficient cw and explain what this parameter tells us.
d) Find the longitudinal position of the center of flotation LCF in m from amidship.
e) Calculate the TPC in sewater, and explain its physical meaning in relation to the waterplane.
f) Calculate the vertical prismatic coefficient cpv and explain its physical meaning in relation to the waterpalne.
g) Given the weight of light ship LW=1700 tons, find its deadweight DW and total weight in tons. How do the two forces of total weight and bouyancy act upon the ship`s center line when the ship is on even keel?
h) We take onboard a weight of 230 t, and place it at LCF. Calculate the new draught and explain why the trim is still zero. What is the main source of error in this calculation?
i) Given a MTC of 200 tm/cm at the new waterplane, how far do we have to move this weight forward to give the ship a forward trim of 0.5 m. Find the trim angle, and the draughts at AP and FP.
