IP-trunks for inter-site communications

Swedish to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general) computers
"MD110, and BusinessPhone are already IP-enabled to the extent that customers can add IP extensions and PC clients, and use IP-trunks for inter-site communications. In the coming releases of these systems (scheduled for 2003), we shall introduce IP networking capabilities on the trunk network side, making MD110 and BusinessPhone fully IP-enabled."

"The connection from each subscriber is known as the local loop, or a pair of wires to the central office (CO) switch. Since party lines are uncommon, the local loop is always available and dedicated to one subscriber. Both wires are used to send voice transmissions from telephone to switch and switch to telephone, allowing a half-duplex connection. Unlike data transmissions which may require a full-duplex connection, people rarely speak at the same time nor do they listen while speaking during a conversation. Since local loop subscribers within a particular region are connected to the same CO switch, a large percentage of calls are handled within the switch and never travel to other points within the telephone network. If a connection from one switch to another is required, the information is transferred over a “trunk,” a direct line between switches. These trunks will only be active while carrying a conversation, after which they will return as idle but available to the network."
