Swedish term

knipa

Swedish to English Medical Medical (general) Urology/gynecology
The term occurs in a text for patients who do pelvic floor training for urinary incontinence:

Thank you!

squeeze

Example sentence:

"Good habits also include squeezing when you transition from sitting to standing, as well as squeezing before you cough, sneeze or lift."

Peer comment(s):

agree Christine Andersen : I think this is the closes equivalent - it is used in parallel with contract, tighten muscles etc. ´Squeeze exercises´ for instance.

agree Helen Johnson : Not being an expert since, for comparison purposes, I work out with weights, but I would say that 'squeeze' would be more likely from the patient's or the layperson's point of view whereas 'contract' maybe from a medical professional's point of view

tighten

... to tighten the pevic floor muscles

... is a term which is widely used

When you tighten the pelvic floor muscles during an exercise, it is important to actually feel the release of the muscles again, as you return the pelvic floor to the start position.
http://www.greenvalleyfitness.com/pelvic-floor-exercises/

The pelvic floor muscles are a series of muscles that form a sling or hammock across the opening of the pelvis. These muscles, together with their surrounding tissue, are responsible for keeping all the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, urethra and rectum) in place and functioning correctly. For example, they normally tighten to help control the release of urine from the bladder.

You should tighten the pelvic floor muscles for a count of six and relax for six seconds.
Each contraction cycle should last 12 seconds. Repeat this 25 times. Do this 3 times each day- total of 75 contractions.

Heavy Lifting. Puts a strain on the pelvic floor so repeated heavy lifting should be avoided when possible. If you need to lift something heavy remember to tighten the pelvic floor muscles before you do so, continuing until after you have put the load down.

A pelvic floor muscle training exercise is like pretending that you have to urinate, and then holding it. You relax and tighten the muscles that control urine flow. It's important to find the right muscles to tighten.

Kegel excercises

At this late stage you're certainly passed this, but my inhouse expert (who gave birth in the US) reminded me of this term -- which is what you're talking about. These are 'knip övningar' in Swe (same reference). The references below uses 'contract' more than 'squeeze'.
These are called 'pelvic floor exercises' in the UK, but you can find hits for Kegel on UK sites. And the object of these exercises is to ... 'tighten' your pelvic floor muscles ...
