How to create a return package when I only translated one out of three files?

I always get an error message. Memoq refuses to create a return package when I translate one out of three files.
The other two files are for other target languages and client said the other translators had no problem creating a package.

My client refuses my delivery of the target file and needs a return package.

Same goes with Q&A-report. Impossible to get a report without the two other languages mentioned.

Thank you very much

What version of memoQ are you using? How many target languages? Aug 1, 2024

Hi, Edwige,

Some questions to get to the bottom of the issue:

1) Version of memoQ?
2) Number of target languages for this 3-file project?
3) Have you run LQA on all files? Do you get terminology alerts? Other errors?

I'm a fellow memoQ (10.6) user and I seldom experienced the problem you describe. Have you tried restarting memoQ and trying again the package creation?

Regards,

Mario Chávez

version 11.0 Aug 1, 2024

Hello Mario,

Thank you for your answer!
1) 11.0
2) 3 target languages
3) Yes, I did. I do get alerts for errors - e.g. tags - but not for terminology errors.

Yes, I tried to restart memoQ, but the package creation was still impossible.

Kind regards,
Edwige

Hello, Edwige,

I am assuming the problematic tags were resolved. Do you still have access to Kilgray's tech support? What have they said?

Have you tried repairing the translation memories attached to the project? Since your client is working with other translators, I am assuming you worked with an online project. I'm afraid I'm out of ideas because I have not worked with memsource or the online version of memoQ to open, translate and return packages.

Cheers,

Mario Chávez

Translation memories Aug 2, 2024

Hello Mario,

Thank you very much for your answer.

Yes, they have been resolved. Everything seems to be in order with the translation memories. I didn't work with an online project - it was offline, as usual. My client meant the other translators didn't have any issue creating a return package.

I am actually in contact with Kilgray's tech support. They are still figuring out what went wrong and asked me about the languages assigned to me on this project. 3

Ask them? Aug 2, 2024

Assuming the other translators get the same package as you, i.e. one containing documents that they do not work on, can you ask them how they manage to create a package? Either directly or using the PM as an email intermediary.

I use memoQ to translate trados packages and have been required not to deliver the entire package at once, when phased delivery is required. I just select the documents/files I want to export, and then click the Export button and memoQ takes care of it. I imagine you have tried that (i.e. just selecting files first, before clicking Export) but one never knows.
Edit: the idea is that the files that are responsible for generating your errors are not included in the export process at all. memoQ will just ignore them if they're not selected.

(I used to work in IT support briefly and I learned to assume nothing about what the other person knows, or has done Hence it might be easier just to talk to those other translators who need to do what you are trying to do.)

I just did Aug 2, 2024

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. I just asked for their contacts. Regarding the export of a single file, that's the first thing I did and my client meant she needed a return package not a target file.

Cheers,
Edwige

Yes, I did mean a return package. You can generate a return package in memoQ that only includes some, not all, of the files from the input package. That would then exclude the files you are not working on.

At the same time, if you haven't touched those files, it's hard to see why the export would generate errors for them.

This is the hazard of remote help desking Definitely try to speak to your colleagues on the project

And in fairness to you, it's also a bit difficult to see why your client would include files in your package that you are not required to translate. It's either laziness - generate the same package for everyone and let the translators sort it out - or perhaps a lack of knowledge of how to generate packages that contain only the useful material for individuals. Either way, it's suboptimal. Good luck.

C'est la vie, I suppose Aug 2, 2024

Hi, Edwige,

I hope tech support finds a solution for you pretty soon. When I had need of Kilgray's tech support (the company had paid for it), technicians were very responsive and reasonably fast.

Cheers!

let's see Aug 3, 2024

When I try to create a return package including some of the documents - well the one I translated, the error message is displayed and says "some of the selected documents are not completed and are not assigned to any participant in a previous role. Impossible to use the deliver/send command for these documents."

That doesn't make sense. Kildray's tech support will schedule a live session using TeamViewer as they don't seem to understand either.

Regarding my client's laziness/unhelpful attitude, say it louder, please:)

Hi Mario,

Thank you very much for your support. I agree they are responsive, but considering the price I paid for their software, that's pretty normal. Apart from that, they are still figuring out where the issue is and offered a live session using TeamViewer after many emails...

Very frustrating... Aug 3, 2024

I guess you will have to wait for your client to solve the issue.
