Source text - Hungarian A fordító, szakfordító emberi kultúrák, gondolatok közötti szakadékon átívelő stabil híd.
Translation - English Translators bridge the gap between cultures and the way people think or do business. Without them different languages and cultures would remain alien to each other. Translate the words only and the message will almost certainly be “lost in translation”.
A poor translation containing often grave mistakes is of little use, particularly when it comes to technical translations. A good translator gets it all and might even read between the lines if needed, to ensure the correct message is transferred into the target language. A technical translator offers even more. An expert in their field, the specialist translator navigates the technical language of their industry with ease.
This is why translation programmes do not work and it is impossible to automate the process. Even simple text requires the expertise of a good translator with an excellent command of both their source and target languages. Industry specific translations are even more complex and much more than straightforward translation is required.
Speaking a language in itself is insufficient. Great translators are linguists immersed in the specific language’s way of thinking. It is pointless to translate words or even sentences in isolation. Translations should always be made in the correct context to ensure the right and proper meaning is conveyed. Furthermore, specialist translations in any field require an excellent and expert knowledge of the field itself.
Hungarian to English: Examining the schematic diagram of a power plant based on conventional fossil-fuel technologies. Summary. General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Energy / Power Generation
Source text - Hungarian 1. SUMMARY
The objective of this, my final year thesis, was to examine the schematic diagram of a power plant based on conventional fossil-fuel technologies. For this, I created a model replicating the operations of the plant, using the GateCycle software. Modeling the power plant’s base load operating status was a success because the final values calculated were, considering the data available, reasonably close to the actual operational parameters of the power plant.
Reviewing the model and the current state of the energy-sector, I came to the conculsion that the Hungarian power grid needs plants with both bigger capacity and better efficiency to reduce the current level of dependence on external supply. Several alternatives were evaluated. The option to perform full repowering on the existing 220 MW lignite-fired unit seemed to be the most optimal.
For a more detailed examination, I created the GateCycle model of the repowered combined cycle power plant. The final version contains a two-pressure level (120 bar and 6.5 bar respectively) heat recovery steam generator and a 263 MWe gas turbine. The total net capacity and cycle efficiency after the proposed repowering sums up to 393 MWe and 55.7%, which is a great increase in both parameteres.
My analysis of this model also confirms financial viability if the price of electicity reaches 24.08 HUF/kWh or higher.
In conclusion, my view is that further research into lignite-based technologies as possible alternatives for upgrading the current power plant, and the comparison of the financial impacts would be of benefit. I propose to continue with this research for my master’s thesis.

English to Hungarian: Garlic and Leek Champ General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Cooking / Culinary
Source text - English Garlic and Leek Champ
Serves 4-6
450g potatoes, peeled and chopped
50g butter
300g leeks, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
200-250ml milk
Salt and black pepper
1. Place the potatoes in a large saucepan of water over a high heat. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.
2. Heat the butter in a large, non-stick saucepan over a medium heat. When just melted, add the leeks and garlic and cook for 4-5 minutes until the leeks are softened.
3. Meanwhile, heat the milk in another saucepan over a high heat. Remove from the heat when starts to boil.
4. Add the leeks and garlic into the potatoes and beat together by hand using a whisk.
5. Gradually add the milk to the potatoes, adding enough to make a soft texture. Season with salt and black pepper and serve.
1. A burgonyát egy nagyobb lábosban nagy lángon feltesszük főni. Miután a víz felforrt, visszavesszük a lángot és így kb. 10-15 perc alatt puhára főzzük. Amikor kész, leszűrjük és félretesszük a főtt krumplit.
2. Teflonserpenyőben felolvasztjuk a vajat, mikor megolvadt, beletesszük a pórét és a fokhagymát, majd 4-5 percig pároljuk, hogy a póré szépen megpuhuljon.
3. Közben egy másik edényben felforraljuk a tejet. Amint felforrt, azonnal levesszük a tűzről, félretesszük.
4. A készre párolt fokhagymás pórét hozzákeverjük a főtt burgonyához és kézi habverővel jó alaposan kikavarjuk.
5. Fokozatosan, kisebb adagonként hozzákeverünk a meleg tejből annyit, hogy sima, puha állagú pürét nyerjünk. Sóval, feketeborssal ízesítve tálaljuk.

Bio
As you will see in more detail from my resume attached, I was born and educated in Hungary and later moved to Ireland, where I have lived and worked for the past 23 years. I have an English language degree and commenced my work career in Dublin with a number of translation and localisation jobs. Further on I worked in telecommunications and IT services in a variety of business development and sales roles. I was based on assignment with an Irish corporate in Hungary for a number of years in the 1990-ies, working through both English and Hungarian, managing the company's administration including all financial and legal matters for our Hungarian office.
I have built up an in-depth knowledge in a number of professional fields, such as telecommunications and ICT, with a strong emphasis on business development, and thus I have an excellent command of business and finance also, including large complex tenders, contracts and business negotiations.
This complete immersion and experience in business English as well as Hungarian enables me to offer the highest level of from Hungarian to English in particular. Customers who choose to work with me can have total confidence in getting English translations that are professional and flow as if they were written in English originally. I also offer proofreading and copywriting for those who are keen to ensure that their translated communications do not end up being difficult to decipher for their English speaking target audience. This I believe is a real differentiator and working with me would guarantee an accurate and high quality translation. Although I am Dublin based, I regularly travel to Hungary, spending several weeks at a time there, so I continuously update myself on all things Hungarian. I am quite sporty, swim a lot, love cars and travel.
Following a successful corporate career with the leading Irish telecommunications and ICT service provider eircom, for personal reasons I decided to change course, and am now looking to utilise my business and language skills as a freelance translator.
