I am looking to put together a collection of lullabies of the world. The lullabies should be traditional and common, songs that are instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up in that country. They should specifically be lullabies, and not just children's songs.

I thought in light of the international audience here, you could help me come up with a good collection. Could you post the name of a lullaby that is commonly sung to babies in your country? A link to a youtube recording would be great. You could also post the lyrics, and if you know them in German or English that would be wonderful, too. Thanks.
For example, my suggestions for German would be:
Weißt Du Wieviel Sternlein Stehen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsLXJcl6wfY&list=PLB9724FC878722528
Weisst du wieviel Sterne stehen
an dem blauen Himmelszelt?
Weißt du wieviel Wolken gehen
weithin über alle Welt?
Gott, der Herr, hat sie gezählet,
daß ihm auch nicht eines fehlet,
an der ganzen großen Zahl,
an der ganzen großen Zahl.
Weißt du wieviel Mücklein spielen
in der hellen Sonnenglut?
Wieviel Fischlein auch sich kühlen
in der hellen Wasserflut?
Gott, der Herr, rief sie mit Namen,
daß sie all' ins Leben kamen
Daß sie nun so fröhlich sind
Daß sie nun so fröhlich sind.
Weißt du wieviel Kinder schlafen,
heute nacht im Bettelein?
Weißt du wieviel Träume kommen
zu den müden Kinderlein?
Gott, der Herr, hat sie gezählet,
daß ihm auch nicht eines fehlet,
kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb,
kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb.
Weißt du, wieviel Kinder frühe
stehn aus ihrem Bettlein auf,
Daß sie ohne Sorg und Mühe
fröhlich sind im Tageslauf?
Gott im Himmel hat an allen
seine Lust, sein Wohlgefallen,
Kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb.
Kennt auch dich und hat dich lieb.

Not sure if this meets the "commonly sung" criterion, but this lullaby-poem authored by Attila József is quite well-known among Hungarians (taught in schools, too) and its wonderful melodized version is sung by Zsuzsa Koncz, a living pop legend. I often sing it to my toddlers, too.

The sky's blue eyes are falling shut,
shut, too, the house's many eyes;
fields sleep beneath their coverlet –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise.
Ants rest their heads upon their knees,
the drowsy. wasps are in a daze,
their business and buzzing cease –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise.
The streetcar snores, its rumbling
dozes, forgetful of the days,
but rings its dream-bell, ding-a-ling –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise.
Asleep the jacket on the chair,
its torn sleeve dozes where it lies,
this day no further will it tear –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise.
The whistle snoozes, and the ball,
the woods and picnic holidays,
the favourite choccie-bar, and all –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise.
Distance, glass marble of the skies,
you will achieve in all your ways,
you'll be a giant; close your eyes –
and go to sleep now, little Blaise.
A soldier, fireman, you will be!
shepherd, you'll lead wild game to graze!
Mummy herself drifts off, just see –
so go to sleep now, little Blaise. ▲ Collapse | | |

Lavar los pañales
Sentarme a coser.
Duérmase mi niño

The national anthem lyrics is different, and longer.
I could not find a single youtube version with the lullabie sung.

I found a rendition of the lullaby on YouTube.

Go to sleep, my little child,
for I have things to do,
To wash your nappies,
And sit down here to sew.
Go to sleep, my little child,
for I have things to do,
To wash your nappies,
Get you something to drink.
This my child wants me to lull him fast to sleep,
His mother who bore him, to lull him fast to sleep
This my child wants me to lull him fast to sleep,
His mother who bore him, to lull him fast to sleep

Everybody knows this one.
Slaap kindje, slaap
Daar buiten loopt een schaap
Een schaap met witte voetjes
die drinkt zijn melk zo zoetjes
Slaap kindje, slaap
Daar buiten loopt een schaap
English translation:
Sleep little one, sleep
There is a sheep walking just over there
A sheep with white feet
Happily drinking its milk
Sleep, little one, sleep

At first I thought this would have the same melody as the German "Schlaf Kindlein Schlaf", but while the first line is the same, it parts ways after that. Thank you so much for posting.

1. http://www.tekstowo.pl/piosenka,fasolki,na_wojtusia.html - the lullaby is known under a couple of titles (mainly the first line or just the first two words 'Na Wojtusia'), the least known of which is its original title 'Bajka iskierki' (A Sparkle's Tale). To sum the story up, a little boy called Wojtuś is promised a long bedtime tale by a sparkle, and the sparkles do try hard but each new tale lasts only as long as the sparkle does, so the kid gets very disappointed...
2. http://www.tekstowo.pl/piosenka,kolysanki,byl_sobie_krol.html - 'Był sobie król' (Once There Was a King...), my favourite one . The story line is: There was a king, his page and his little princess, they loved one another dearly and were very happy together... until the king got eaten by a cat, the page - by a dog, and the princess - by a mouse; still, no need to cry over them, little darling, as the king was made of sugar, the page of ginger cake, and the little princess was all marzipan.
3. http://www.tekstowo.pl/piosenka,kolysanki,kotki_dwa.html - 'Kotki dwa' (Two Cats); a very traditional lullaby, now almost forgotten. I mean, everybody recognizes the title but nobody remembers more than four lines (at best). Still, I had to mention it here because its initial lines were used as a refrain in a 1938 film song / lullaby which became so popular that it virtually ousted the original:
4. http://www.tekstowo.pl/piosenka,anna_maria_jopek,ach_spij_kochanie.html - 'Ach śpij, kochanie" (Ah, Do Get Asleep, My Dear); the lullaby is as persuasive as the title suggests: See, there are so many stars in the sky, and they all say that kids should be already asleep, so why aren't you? See, the moon keeps yawning up there and will be ashamed if it gets asleep before you do...
