Source text - English TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras - Honduras will not stay in the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA), since the National Party, which will control the next congress, supports withdrawing from the bloc of countries.
The National Party has not established an official position in response to the request of Roberto Micheletti’s government if it will withdraw from ALBA, but its principal leaders, including president-elect Porfirio Lobo, have expressed their agreement with leaving.
“At the time that this matter is debated, the Nationalist bloc is going to vote in favor of this decision,” said Lobo plainly at a press conference on Dec. 18.
Lobo added that his government plans did not involve projects that are dependent upon ALBA, thus his administration would not be affected by a withdrawal from the bloc which in his opinion is “very given to intervening in the internal affairs of other states” and “the proof is that they wanted to delegitimize the [Honduran] elections.”
“It is important to understand what kind of relationship we can have with any country in the world, but no agreement should mean submission to another country or its participation in military or political matters,” he declared.
For his part, Antonio Rivera, the deputy head of the Nationalist group, said that his party “is ready to accompany the executive branch in this request to denounce the ALBA treaty.”
“Making an analysis of whether it has brought benefits or not to the country, one would easily conclude that there have been many more detrimental than positive effects, as a result, we would be in agreement with this initiative,” expressed Rivera.

The media’s detractors claim that until 2009, “K-style” has denoted the attitude of an authoritarian government with the support of a comfortable parliamentary majority. However, the media’s advocates claim the government has kept the country afloat during a worldwide financial crisis.
But the sides do agree on this premise: The letter K stands for Kirchner, surname of the former president Néstor (2003-2007) and his wife and successor, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who will govern the country until December 2011 as a representative of the Partido Justicialista (Justicialist Party, PJ, Peronista).
But in 2010, with Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s term entering its final two years and her husband reserving his right to run in future elections, the pair faces a key period in determining what happens next to the couple. The Kirchners must refine their political and social alliances in the face of dissident Peronism and the Unión Cívica Radical (Radical Civic Union).
This year, which will be highlighted by the celebration of the bicentenary of Argentina becoming an independent republic, also will be marked by the renewed leadership in congress, which has been dealing with increased social conflict, indicators of consumer inflation and the increasing participation of unions in the political arena.
