Din cauza asta, bărbatu-său niciodată n-o lasă să vorbească când joacă fotbal echipa lui preferată. La fel dacă pleacă undeva cu maşina, doamna Severeanu nu trebuie să spună nimic despre drum sau motor. Nici de bine, nici de rău. Nu de alta, dar cobeşte. Şi-n general, doamna Severeanu este rugată să vorbească numai atunci când toată lumea este de acord să se întâmple ceea ce va spune. Dar cine s-ar fi gândit, de pildă, că după lecţia de cinste tocmai primită luni, marţi să-i fie dat Silviei să găsească o sută de lei? Nimeni. Doar gura aurită a doamnei Severeanu a făcut ca exact marţi dimineaţa, în drum spre şcoală, Silvia să găsească o bancnotă albastră de o sută de lei, cu chipul lui Bălcescu pe faţă.
Translation - English Everyone knows that Mrs. Severeanu has the mouth of a prophet. Anything she says always comes true, no matter what! For this very reason, her husband never lets her talk when his favorite soccer team is playing. The same applies if they’re driving somewhere: Mrs. Severeanu isn’t allowed to make any remarks whatsoever regarding the road or the engine, whether they be good or bad. She’s been known to jinx it. Generally, people ask Mrs. Severeanu to keep her thoughts to herself unless everyone agrees that they want whatever she’s saying to really come about. But who could have predicted, for example, that after the lesson in honesty that she received on Monday, Silvia would happen across 100 lei on Tuesday? Nobody. It was Mrs. Severeanu’s mouth of gold that made it so, that very Tuesday morning, on her way to school Silvia would find a blue hundred lei bill with Bălcescu’s face printed onto it.

Dutch sounds
Consonants
As a speaker of English you won't find Dutch consonants much of a problem. The consonants are generally pronounced the same as in English. Here are the main exceptions:
ch licht light As in Scottish loch. You should feel it at the back of your mouth. Sounds softer the further south you go.
g geck mad The same guttural sound as ch. Never pronounced as English g. j ja yes As in English y in yes.
k, p, t kat cat, pop doll, tas bag The same as in English but without exhaling as much air (hold your hand in front of your mouth and make sure you feel no air coming out with the Dutch words).
r rood red Can be made by trilling your tongue against the back of your upper teeth or by making friction at the back of the mouth (like a French r).
sch school school A combination of s and ch.
v vis fish Like English v in give, but sometimes closer to English f, especially at the beginning of words.
w wit white Between English v and w. Hold your upper teeth against your lower lip.

1 The position of adverbs (ikke, altid, aldrig, etc) in a subordinate clause
As explained in Unit 3 (page 38) a main clause is a sentence which is a complete statement, while a subordinate clause only makes sense when it is joined to the main clause. There are some main clauses that seem incomplete; for example, han siger,at ... (he saysthat ...), vi ved ikke,om ... (we don't knowif ...), jeg synes ikke,at ... (I don't thinkthat ...). If the subordinate clause is replaced by it or so, the main clause becomes complete in itself: he says so, we don't know it, I think so.
In Unit 5 (pages 63-4) you learned about the position, in a main clause, of adverbs indicating time (altidalways, nunow, ofteoften, sjældentseldom, snartsoon), and of adverbs that negate (ikke, aldrignever) or in some other way qualify the meaning of the whole clause (måskeperhaps, kun, bareonly). These are placed after the verb or between the auxiliary verb and the main verb in a main clause.

În Lecţia 5 (paginile 63-4) aţi învăţat despre poziţia în cadrul unei propoziţii principale a adverbelor de timp (altidmereu, nuacum, oftedes, sjældentrar, snartcurând), a adverbelor negative (ikke, aldrigniciodată) şi a celor care califică o propoziţie întreagă (måskepoate, kun, baredoar). Aceste adverbe urmează imediat după verb sau între verbul auxiliar şi verbul principal dintr-o propoziţie principală.
