Many thanks! Dear all, I would like to thank you all for your help. Unfortunately, I have not been able to choose any answer as it is really a very tricky and misleading item. I asked the client to "explore" what was going on, but unfortunately, they seem not to know anything and, as it was approved as the English source wording for translation without actually knowing what it means, nobody is able to trace the meaning now. Unfortunately this "error" will probably reappear in translations in all other languages (which I really do not understand! Quality-focus!?). Therefore, I decided to close this question without grading. However, I do really appreciate you efforts and inputs.

There is a Maserati Mexico, but it's not made there. The only Mexican Fiat plant does much more mundane assemblies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toluca_Car_Assembly

I doubt if your word has anything to do with this.

I have already considered the car brand.. but I am not really sure, it would make sense if he "was cutting parts for the ..." not "from"... :(

no Spanish... Dear Charles, I have only what I have indicated above in English. It is actually what was said. I decided to try Spanish/English as I believe the speakers background is Spanish/Mexican and the word itself sounds as Ibero-Romance...

"rata" is a fairly rare ending in Spanish. Unless he's cutting up Italian sports cars, I'd look for a split into two words e.g. "masa rata" (which doesn't work).
