Floriana Leary Feb 18, 2009:
lugar It's a municipality or township in the US, see link . http://www.alleghenycounty.us/munimap/index.asp
The township government is a local unit of government, originally rural in application. They are geographic and political subdivisions of a county. The township is identified by a name, such as Washington Township. The responsibilities and the form of the township government is specified by the state legislature: see more at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Township_(United_States)
Floriana Leary Feb 18, 2009:
Solange in Portugal you have your city/distrito (Lisbon), your County/Concelho (Cascais), your Borough/Junta de Freguesia (São Domingos de Rana) and your Township/localidade[local] Tires / see link for an example in the US : http://www.alleghenycounty.us/munimap/index.asp
Gilmar Fernandes Feb 18, 2009:
Solange, good that we have this forum to exchange views. I take back my DISTRICT answer since that could be confusing (ref. Portuguese municipal divisions) Suggest using COUNTY instead, if the translation is for the U.S./Canada.

Solange,

Yes, if for the U.S. or Canada, I would use district. Other countries I'm not too sure, but I suspect it would be understood in Britain and other English speaking countries.
Note from asker:
so it would be district and parish of Fajã de baixo, Rua do xxxx number xxx,
Thank you for the help.
For me my district would be Ponta Delgada i think. cause i was bron in azores (portugal) so i was born freguesia de Sao jose, ponta delgada ilha de sao miguel acores.
so on the bc that whole part says lugar e freguesia de Faja de baixo rua do xxx n. xx , concelho de ponta delgada. and in ennglish i have it to district and parish of Fajã de baixo, Rua do xx number xxx, municipality of Ponta Delgada.

Region

Em Portugal eu viví na região(lugar) de Tires, Freguesia de São Domingos de Rana, Conselho de Cascais, Distrito de Lisboa

In the US I lived in the Region of South Mountain, Lehigh County, City of Allentown

FOR REGION YOU NEED TO KNOW IF IT'S NORTHEAST, SOUTHWEST, ETC.,...BOROUGH IS LOCALIDADE LOOK AT REF: a borough does not designate a single township, but a whole region (wikipedia)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Gilmar Fernandes : Region in the U.S. refers to the Northeast region, the Mid-Atlantic region, etc....not a specific town

You are right, South Mountain is in the Southeast Region of Allentown, and it's the Borough of South Mountain! Thank you for refreshing my memory!
