Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
This word appears in a paragraph in a letter in which the writer is describing a particularly crazy night out. The letter is written mostly in Spanish but with occasional Basque words.
I assume the turuleta is some kind of musical wind instrument but if anyone has any further info it would be much appreciated.

little txirulas (Basque flutes)
In other words, perhaps they meant "txiruletas", which has been turned into "turuletas" either by mistake or more probably (I'd guess) as a joke, as if saying "these stupid txirulas".
A txirula is a Basque flute, and "txiruleta" could be a diminutive of it. It's the best I can think of.
"Txirula

hens / chicks
There's a very popular children's song called "La Gallena Tureleca", if the letter is handwritten it is easy to mistake a 't' for a 'c'. What I don't know is if "turuleta", or more specifically "chick, hen, clucker!", are used as insults or derogatory terms in the Basque (or any other part of Spain). May be it's similar to saying "dizzy bird" - or a bit stronger because it's preceded by 'puta'.
