OK - another thing that is probably really easy to solve!
How do I stop spaces being generated in the target where they are not needed after the {ut1} (whatever they are called) or after symbols such as "/".

Do you use Google Translate? If so, here is the problem. You will NOT even have this if you use MS Translator.
What you can do is to activate TransCheck on "Forbidden Characters" at the main list (Edit menu > Preferences > TransCheck), and "Apply", and then add something like "} " (a curly bracket without quotes) to the "Forbidden Chars" sub-tab.
