Yes definitely ! Mar 21, 2013

I became a freelance translator after working a few years in sales/marketing: it's been a great experience especially because it was abroad but for several reasons I couldn't imagine doing it all my life.
Translation is for me "the best job in the world", I wouldn't change for nothing in the world !!

Nearing retirement Mar 21, 2013

In 5 years' time, I may have decided to hang it up. If I won the lottery, I'd probably stop working. Since my chances of winning the lottery aren't very high, I guess I'll still be hammering away at the keyboard.

Most probably not Mar 21, 2013

I don't know Mar 21, 2013

How could I? I do not feel secure as a translator, though, and I can't help feeling that sooner or later a better opportunity will come along.

Absolutely, yes. Mar 21, 2013

Translation was, is, and will definitely be my profession as long as I am capable of translating.
It is only recently that I do business in polycultural, integral coffee plantation to diversify my sources of income. However, I keep accessing the Internet to run my translation business.

Haven't a clue ... Mar 21, 2013

But I suppose I will soldier on doing the same old thing. I've got in so deep in now, I wouldn't know how to get myself out.

And, it beats washing dishes, I suppose!

So do I.

It's simply too enjoyable to quit. Why give up a good thing for... whatever?

I certainly hope so. Mar 21, 2013

All things being equal, I cannot think of any reason to stop translating. By contrast, there are plenty of reasons to carry on.

Stray thought: If I win the lottery, I may enter into a partnership with one agency I work with so that anyone who does work for that agency gets paid ridiculously high rates, irrespective of what the agency charges the client. If wishes were horses...
