I have a file which contains several graphs and tables. All of the numbers use a comma as a decimal separator.
When I export the file to Word, the commas are all still in place but I want them to be '.'
Is there a hidden function where I can do this?

Thanks

I don't know the wildcards to do so in WF Pro, though. Anyone?

Thank you, but I need to explain differently May 16, 2013

Thank you for your suggestions, however the problem is not with word - I can handle that bit.
The problem is with wordfast as all the numbers in the tables are hidden somewhere in the background (they don't show up when I am doing my translation), and when I export the file back to word, they are all replicated as per the original formatting.

I suppose I could always doctor the source word file, but that might affect the client's TM.

Hidden text May 17, 2013

Sorry, I didn't understand that in the first place. This might be due tot he fact that they are marked as hidden text in Word, thus when importing your doc to WF, they're not taken into account, but you'll find them in the clean file.

Try to open the source doc and select sample of text that is not imported in WF Pro, open the Character menu, see if the checkbox "Hidden" (along with bold, italics, all caps, etc) is checked.
If so, select all the text in you doc and unselect that checkbox, re-import the doc in WF Pro and it all should be there.

It has come up again - I can't be the only user that has experienced this, or maybe I am the only user that doesn't know how to resolve the issue ...

The word file is fine, nothing hidden - all present and correct - however all the numbers in the tables have a comma as the decimal separator and they are still in that format when it is exported to Word after I have done my translation.

As I said above, I could spend time going through the original file doing a global change, but there must surely be a better way of doing it within WF.

Number Extraction ON Jul 21, 2014

Hi Gerry,

Have you turned ON Number Extraction from Preferences > Filters? Once you turn this ON number only segments will show up in WFP. In Preferences again Enable Auto-Suggest for Number conversions, Preferences > Translations > Auto-Suggest > Number conversions. This should suggest the correct conversions for target language as you type in target.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,

John

I downloaded the latest version of WF last night in the hope that this might have an effect.

Yes - all of the above, and they were all ticked as default. It doesn't seem to have any effect, though.

It's not a big deal - there weren't a huge amount of numbers so I went back to the original Word file and changed them all there - a bit annoying as I could have done something more fruitful with those 30 minutes or so

Hopefully it will continue to be only an annual event, but I can't believe that I am the only one who has encountered this issue.

Thanks for your help!

Word document Jul 21, 2014

Hi Gerry,

Only reason I could think of is the original Word file is in same folder with existing TXML file. Try moving it to a new folder and open it in WFP to see if that extracted numbers.

Thank you,

John
