Spanish to English: La Sociedad Teosófica/The Theosophical Society General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Philosophy
Source text - Spanish La Sociedad Teosófica se funda en Estados Unidos, no obstante, rápidamente se extendió por Europa. La influencia de la teosofía en el arte fue inmediata, particularmente en Holanda. En la exposición organizada en 1904 en Amsterdam, con motivo de la Convención Internacional de la Sociedad Teosófica, participaron 40 artistas holandeses, lo que da una idea de la buena acogida que tuvo la doctrina teosófica entre los círculos artísticos de Holanda.

American Spanish to English translator and proofreader since 2006. I worked on staff at BCG (business strategy consulting) for six years and since 2014 I've been self-employed. I am a registered freelancer ("autónoma") and can issue invoices in Spain/EU.
Long(er) story:
I've been living in Madrid, Spain since 2003. I studied Spanish at Skidmore College, where I graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa and with Periclean Honors (3.73 GPA). After moving to Spain I got a certificate in Translation at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2006), and started a doctorate in European Literature, although I had to drop it in my second year after being offered an attractive job at The Boston Consulting Group as an in-house translator in 2008. There I have come into contact with a wide range of materials, touching on everything from management strategies to alternative energies, and taking on all kinds of linguistic tasks including standard translations and ESL proofreading as well as writing up reports from notes, drawing up letters and taking on major editing jobs to produce publishable text. Working at BCG I translated a huge amount of text, racking up almost a million words a year and I also cultivated my customer service skills and learned how to do high quality-high speed translations.
I have been working and thriving freelance full time since June 2014 for a wide array of clients and on a number of topics. I also have specialized in proofreading and editing academic papers written by Spanish speakers in English for publication in English-language journals. I do a fair amount of MT post-editing and general proofreading as well.
I have intermediate conversational French (B2), a lower level of Catalan (B1) and an introductory level of Italian (A1) and Arabic.
