Bio
Background
I am a native speaker of the Korean language. After
graduating from a college in Korea, I furthered my education at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, USA and received a Ph. D degree in Economics. After two
years of working in Korea's academic world, I relocated to the UK in 1993 and
worked in the engineering and manufacturing industry for over two decades. When
I felt it was the right time to relieve myself of undue stress, I retired from a
well paying but highly stressful position. Since then, I have trained as a
certified translator (English/Korean – ISO17100 Certified Translation Services
and National Competency Standards (NCS) of Korea) and have been enjoying life
as a freelance translator, happily working alone at my computer.
My specialized subject areas for
translation work
Given my academic background and industrial
experience, I naturally enjoy any subject areas related to economy, finance,
accounting, politics, law, and engineering. Being a keen learner and
enthusiastic researcher, I also love the translation task of intellectually
stimulating content, even if it is not an area in which I claim to have expert
knowledge.
Sample client list
Since becoming a freelance translator, I have
done translation work for various prestigious end-clients in Korea, including
the National Cancer Center of Korea, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the
WWF-Korea, Hwashin Automotive (for Volkswagen America), and Cadillac-Korea, to
name a few.
My approach
I may not be one of the fastest translators. However, I strive to become the most
thorough translator. Having worked in the real business world for over three
decades, I know how small the margin can be between winning and losing. An
inadvertent mistake or omission by the translator can leave the readers (your
customers, buyers or partners) a bad impression of you. At times, it can be the
very thing that ruins your chances of winning. So, my approach is that I take
on only the translation tasks at which I am fully confident I can excel. And I
shoulder the responsibility and deliver the best and most thorough translation
work on time that my clients fully deserve.
