Le système de freinage du véhicule Volvo qui avait fauché deux enfants en 1999 a été mis en cause, mardi, devant le tribunal correctionnel de Saverne, où le constructeur, un concessionnaire et la conductrice comparaissent pour "homicides et blessures involontaires".
Première à porter le fer, la conductrice Catherine Kohtz a maintenu à la barre sa thèse, contestée par Volvo, d'une défaillance du système de freinage. "J'ai freiné de plus en plus fort mais la voiture est partie comme une masse inerte" sur une portion de route soumise à une pente importante, s'est défendue cette enseignante de 57 ans.

The brake system of a Volvo vehicle which fatally cut down two children in 1999 has been cited, Tuesday, in the judicial court of the City of Saverne, where the manufacturer, a dealer representative, and the car driver are sued for “involuntary manslaughter and injuries”.
The first defendant on the stand, driver Catherine Kohtz, has maintained in court her original position, challenged by Volvo, of a defect in the brake system. “I stepped on the brakes again and again as hard as I could, but the car kept going like a dead weight” along a section of road with a steep slope, said this teacher, age 57. |
