I am a translator, transcriptionist, and proofreader with an MA in Spanish Translation from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am currently a Spanish Instructor at Queens University of Charlotte, where I have developed online, hybrid, and traditional courses is Medical Spanish and Spanish for Social Services, among others. I also have a graduate certificate in Business Spanish and a BA in Spanish (Applied Language Emphasis) with a concentration in Teacher Education. While my language skills were honed through formal education, most of my knowledge of the language comes from going back and forth from the US to South America to live, study, and work, which I have done since I was a teenager.
I complete well-written, accurate translations in a variety of areas, especially: law (police interviews), business, and medical. I have experience translating mining texts and contracts, focus groups, conferences, and police interrogations. I am extremely familiar with terminology in the areas of education, tourism and literature and I enjoy working with texts and audio where knowledge of regional dialects and/or slang is required.
My MA thesis was on Multilingual Social Media Marketing in the Tourism and Hospitality Industry, and my current research focuses on the use of web 2.0 technologies in foreign language education.
I firmly believe that education without application is useless. In my case, a combination of education and experience permits me to apply technical knowledge in a practical way.
I strive to produce thoughtful, accurate translations where attention to detail and meaning are never sacrificed due to time constraints.
Translation is more than a business to me; it is a pleasure.
