Hello all,
I've just got a project in wich my costumer said:
"Do you use Trado? If yes, send me a cleaned and another uncleaned"
What did he mean by that? And how do I do it?

If you use Trados, you clean your document in Translators Workbench after translation, you will then have a translated document, and the document you translated will also exist in as a .BAK document - you will have to send him both. Hope this made sense. | | | Use "cleanup" option to "clean" the file | Nov 25, 2009 |
hi!
I am a user of trados, so the explanation which follows applies to trados (perhaps to other CAT tools as well).
You have a menu option called "cleanup" in Trados, which you use to "clean" the segmented file, so that it will have a final look containing only the translated, not the segmented text.

So, unclean file refers to the segmented text (text containing both source and target text), whereas clean file refers to the text already cleaned, i.e, not containing source text and formatting marks.
How can you "clean" your file? First, backup your final (translated) file. Then, create a folder called "cleaned" and another called "uncleaned". Then, use the menu option called "cleanup" as already said. Uncleaned folder will contain your file segmented, and unclean folder will contain the file which has undergone cleanup process.
Hope it helped

The uncleaned document is the bilingual one. The clean document is the document with only your target language.
Hope this helps! | |

Is it possible that he means that you should do the translation in Trados 2007, using the RTF interface? I'm not sure if the bilingual and monolingual files from Trados 2009 are still called "cleaned" and "uncleaned". What do the Trados buffs say? | | | Gerry Vickers United Kingdom Local time: 15:49 Member (2007) Czech to English + ... Similar problem | Dec 2, 2009 |
I use Wordfast, but I probably only use about 5% of its functions I don't use Microsoft Word.
On querying a request to send an 'unclean' file, I got the response 'It is an unclean term. I need bilingual files so I can clean up into TM' for which I would probably need a CAT tool to translate into English as it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. At least I know that TM is Translation Memory.

Is there an easy way of fulfilling the client's request in Wordfast without having to go on a PhD course?
