Over 20 years of experience, translating from Spanish and Catalan to English.

Areas of translation/proofreading in which I specialise:

Current affairs/political science (Fundació CIDOB, Barcelona), cinema and photography, marketing, architecture, technical (manuals, patents, etc.), business/reports/surveys, geography/geology, tourism, gastronomy and enology, history, history of science, literature and education.

I work regularly for many different public institutions in Barcelona, including the Residéncia de Investigadores-CSIC, ICUB (Institut de Cultura de Barcelona), Museu Marítim de Barcelona, MNAC, CIDOB and CCCB, as well as most of the city’s universities.

JOURNALISM

2004 - PRESENT

Deputy Editor of Catalonia Today, 2004 – 2007, Copy Editor of Inside Spain, 2008 – 2010. Author of numerous opinion articles, pieces about Catalonia and Spain, etc.

SUBTITLING

2015 - PRESENT

I began working in this
field in 2015, translating and subtitling corporate videos and academic
lectures for the publisher Planeta,
in addition to subtitling video seminars on political science for the CIDOB Foundation (Barcelona). I went
on to regularly produce video subtitles for many companies such as Laserfilm (Barcelona), Spell Translations (Lisbon)
Wordlights (US) and Fifty-One Servicios Lingüísticos (Spain). My preferred
subtitling software has always been Subtitle Workshop, though since January 2022
I now work for Sfera Deluxe (the platform responsible for subtitling Netflix)
after undergoing training in the use of the company’s exclusive subtitling
software.

EDUCATION

1982 - 1998

Prior to becoming a translator, I taught English as a foreign language in England, Italy, Spain (incl. British Institute, Barcelona), Thailand, Taiwan and Hong Kong (incl. British Council, HK).

I taught all levels of adult students (17+), from beginners to advanced, in the specific areas of business English, general English and preparing students for Cambridge and TOEFL examinations.
