- A leverage = tőkeáttétel a vállalat idegen tőke/ saját tőke állományát mutatja (hitel kontra az alaptőke és a tartalékok).
A tőkeáttétel növekedése azt jelzi, hogy a cég egyre kevésbé saját pénzből, egyre inkább hitelekből és kölcsönökből finanszírozza magát (a folyó működést és/vagy a fejlesztéseket).
A tőkeáttétel csökkenése az ezzel ellentétes folyamat, amikor az idegen tőke aránya csökken, ami jellemzően a hitelek visszafizetését jelenti, de az értékpapírpiacon jelentheti a hitelből finanszírozott, vagy megadott (pl. feltöltési) kötelezettségekkel járó pozíciók felszámolását is.
