Modest price, but it's a start
If Fred offered x per word, my feeling is that 3x is still very much on the low side of low. Some of the job offers I see on this site would still be underpaid at 6 times the fee.
But at least LT has started to get up on his hind legs and make a difference. Glad to see that! And I'm sure he will gradually move towards earning a living out of his work.
So when and how does Professor Brookesduddy get taken to the cleaners? Can't... See more Modest price, but it's a start

It's not this site, it's Pros.com - totally unrelated, no similarity intended, of course
Keep the instalments coming! | | | I missed the Lil' Translator | Aug 31, 2007 |
Wao!, I was gone on vacation and not only did I miss reading the Lil' Translator's latest stories, but I see I almost missed this totally radical "transformation" of the Lil' Translator.
And btw, cool that you used such a typical Robert De Niro quote: “You wanna play Dodge City wid ME, muddafugga?” (almost like the one from Taxi Driver: “You talkin' to me?”)
Definitely one of my best Proz.com/Pros.com readings!

Thanks once again for all the encouraging feedback! I hope it is still striking the odd chord within the community.

Actually, I was going to leave this instalment until September, but I had just finished doing a bit of end-of-summer translation on our flight from Bilbao last week and was in fact closing up the computer near the end of the journey, when I heard an urgent squeaking inside it. "You can't leave me like this", whispered LT, "I've got a whole new translator attitude starting here. Write some more, you fool".
"For crying out loud", I hissed into the thing, "we're about to land, and I'm on holidays. Bog off for a week or so, can't you?". Out of the corner of my eye, from the aisle seat I could see passengers nudging each other and looking across. "Back in your box, Little Translator", I threatened. "I mean it.
"No, don't cut me off like this, give me life ....", I could hear him urging me as I finally brought the screen down on him and clicked it shut.
The Aer Lingus stewardess spoke into the microphone: "As we have now begun our final approach to Dublin airport, passengers are requested to ensure that their seatbelts are fastened, luggage is stowed under the seat in front of them or in the overhead lockers, tables are folded away, and their seats are in the upright position. That goes for the gentleman in 17D talking to his laptop as well."
Bye,
Mervyn ▲ Collapse | |
