Looking for INI and RC file translation software Thread poster: chcw

Hi,
Our software is localized via .INI file and .RC file.
Each .INI file looks like this:
[MainForm]
SRepairTabCaption = '&Repair'
SBatchRepairTabCaption = '&Batch Repair'
SOptionsTabCaption = '&Options'
SAboutTabCaption = '&About'
SRepairSuccessButDemo4 = 'Please <A HREF="%s">order the full version</A> to get the actual data. '
Each .RC file looks like this:

STRINGTABLE
BEGIN
IDS_ABOUTBOX "&About GetOutlookVer..."
END
The strings may contain special character such as &(the following character will be used as shortcut), or HTML tag such as <A HREF="%s">.
I am looking for a software product that can:
1. Invoke DeepL API to translate .INI and .RC files via machine.
2. [Preferable]Support commandline so that I can automate the translation.
3. Less than 1000 USD per license.
Can anyone recommend such one?

Both file formats (.INI and .RC) are little likely to be supported out-of-the-box by any CAT tool. This means you will need to write your own translatable text extraction rules using regular expressions.
In Wordfast Pro, you can write your own extraction rules, then add the respective .properties rule file(s) to the filter list. Then, when you add a .INI or .RC file to a project, Wordfast Pro will ask you which filter you want to apply. You then select the filter (or confirm it if you'd set is as default before that) and you'll see the translatable text.
I must add that Wordfast Pro does not directly support .INI or .RC files. This means that if you want to add the source files by clicking the Add Files or Add Folder button, you will first need to change their extensions, e.g. sample.ini --> sample.ini.xml. When you save the translated (target) file, you'll need to change the extension back by removing the .xml part. Luckily, there is an easier way that does not involve changing the file extension – you simply need to drag and drop the files (as opposed to adding them by clicking the buttons mentioned above).
Wordfast Pro can connect to DeepL if you buy – separately – a CAT tool API key from DeepL.
Wordfast Pro cannot be automated using command line instructions. Manual work will be required from the translator.
A three-year licence costs 480 USD.

I'm not sure, but it may be that the OP might be able to use the demo version of WFP8, if he doesn't use a TM. The only demo limitation mentioned in the documentation is 500 TUs in the TM, but I'm not sure if the current version of WFP8 allows translation without a TM, or whether there are additional demo limitations that the documentation doesn't speak about. | | | chcw Hong Kong TOPIC STARTER
