Hi fellow translators!
I find myself very frequently copying some source text from memoQ, pasting it into the MS Language Portal (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/language/Search) and then copying some result from there back into memoQ.

I might do some researching myself, maybe using AutoIt or some other external automation solution, and will also post back here if I come up with anything useful.

IMHO that copying when MT is disabled by your clients is a confidentiality violation. First of all you should ask your clients is it allowed to use external translation tools such as MS LP or Google Translate etc. If it is allowed, then you should discuss enabling MT plugins. If not - then again it is rules violation and you should seek bypass means.

In addition to the MT part, GT4T can also search "Dictionaries", both local (in Excel files) and online. It has support for the Microsoft Terminology Portal built in.
If you have any trouble the developer is also very responsive and helpful.

You can simply download a tbx file from their site and use it directly in memoQ. The language you are prompted to select is your target language (other than English).

That is not an issue in my case. In most of the cases I am either translating references to some Microsoft UI that need to be consistent or have been actively encouraged by my client to use Microsoft terminology in their UI for consistency reasons. They block MT Plugins to avoid people doing MTPE and deliver MTPE sounding translations.

I know this option, but this only gives me a TB with a list of terms, while the language portal searches a TM with all of the GUI of all Microsoft products, which makes a huge difference.
I wanted to avoid having to switch apps.

For me, the MS Language Portal works fine both in Web Lookup (Studio) and in Web Search (memoQ).
In fact, you can add even DeepL (as suggested above) in Web Search and it works fine.
Booth look-up apps are of great help if you work with multiple monitors.
In order to find the right syntax for your target language follow the instructions provided in the Web Search settings.

Thank you George, I didn't know that feature!
In the meantime I have hacked together a very janky script in AutoHotKey that does what I need for the time being. I can select text, press a keyboard combination, select a result from the MS Language Portal in a list and copy it to my clipboard with very few keystrokes.
This script is very far from being publishable, but feel free to PM me in case anyone is interested and I can point you in the right direction.
