Anyway, the topic is about low rates for jobs posted in Proz, a problem we have been discussing forever and which rather than improving seem to go continually downhill. At that time they talked about the scandalous rate of 4 cents per word. Nowadays we see even lower rates.

As Kay said it very well, the jobs advertised here are a very small fraction of the market, and I add that, fortunately, misrepresentative too.

I think you mean "recent" issue. We don't use the word lately that way in English.

Although, we can say "an issue of late".

English is so weird.

One particular company offers the lowest rates on the market and its founder was selected businessperson of the year thanks to the work of all those freelancers foolish enough to accept their absolute maximum rate of 0.05.
Isn't it better to be an outsourcer, the Aldi/Lidl of the translation-market than to be a translator? At least, you will get recognition for your work.

Yes, this chief operating officer was given the award by the 'IndUS Business Journal' in 2007. The journal 'showcases South Asian/Asian Indian professionals and entrepreneurs in the United States'.

Our businessman was recognised for: 'an ability to view the business landscape with a global perspective, underscored by an understanding of socio-economic trends not only in India but across Asia and Europe as well.'

I think this means that he has been recognised for grasping the opportunity to introduce Indian wage rates to the US and Western Europe.

is this offer, I think:

"this company is looking now for telephone interpreters. They pay 13 EUR per hour. Their clients pay them 120 EUR per hour. At their page is written that they work only with highly qualified and certified interpreters! Ha-ha"
