By hour; 30% if client insists on billing by word count Mar 17, 2010

I always try to charge by the hour wherever possible. This will often work to the client's advantage, since if the translation is well done, the hourly proofreading rate will often add up to less than a percentage of the total word count would.
But not all clients see it way - some would rather have the certainty of a fixed rate.
