A client wants me to directly insert the translation I made on his website.
Has one of you already suggested this service to their customer? If yes how much do you charge for this service?

I was once asked to insert a translation on a company’s website although, unlike your case, the translation had been made by somebody else. My client’s intention was at the same time to have it proofread and to make sure each string was entered in the correct place so that it makes sense. Not all parts of the website had been translated, and so I should also delete untranslated info (the translated website was based on an English template).

I agree with Tânia, I would charge per hour.
Now the difficult part is if you have to quote before doing the job, you need to estimate how long it's going to take.

Translating content is one thing, applying that to HTML is another, and structuring a web site is a third one.
Let's take for granted that you can translate, period.
Then you have to implement that translated text into HTML tags and other commands. Your profile on Proz shows two "size+1" things that shouldn't be there. This means that you are probably as much as a klutz with HTML as I am. If I have a large site working, it's because WebSiteX5 does all the nuts & bolts for me; I don't get to see any HTML, ever!
Finally, you have to structure the site. Let's say your client's site is in English, site.com and they want you to translate it into French. Will it be site.com/fr, fr.site.com, or will each page have a /fr/ or /en/ in the URL? How is the switch processed? Flags, tabs? Can a visitor switch language in any page, or do they have to go to the home page? You'll have to restructure the entire thing.
Are you able to do this? If you are, I apologize for the inconvenience; simply disregard my input. I'm just trying to protect you from biting more than you can chew. I've seen too many translators who got into "translations" that required complex DTP, and tried to do it with their only tool, MS Word.
If you happen to know some friendly web developer, check on the possibility of teaming up with him or her to do it. ▲ Collapse

I wouldn't, which is why I've never been prepared to do this. I won't even take copy OFF a website, far less put it back. On two occasions, clients have asked me to take the copy from the web, and been surprised when I've refused. On one of the two occasions, the client found loads of untranslated text hiding away after I'd delivered the initial translation of a Word file. This was an agency client, and I've no doubt that they had quoted for the complete job, whilst I had quoted for the word-cou... See more I wouldn't, which is why I've never been prepared to do this. I wouldn't like placing html websites onto the web, but on the contrary placing articles into the client's CMS is rather simple, doesn't take time and is even boring. All journalists do that. And yes, the invoice should be made by the hour.
