I’ve mainly skimmed this thread so apologies if this has been mentioned, but can you tell us which country this agency is in? This would dictate the means you have at your disposal to try and recover the sums due to you (if it should come to that). You would be unlikely to get work from them again; although it doesn't sound to me as if that would be any great loss (other than perhaps an initial financial hit). If you feel that the relationship with the original PM was of such value that it would be a shame to burn bridges, then by all means accept more work from them but only against prepayment and obviously once this debt has been cleared. In the meantime, I would spend a minimum of 3 hours a day (starting today) marketing yourself to other potential clients out there. There is no reason at all why someone with your language spread and specialist areas should be reliant on one agency.

Eleftherios, you’re spot-on. I suspect we'll never see those good days again and we, the translators, have only ourselves to blame.
