I might translate the subtitles for a documentary movie of 117 minutes.
The program is user friendly som no problem there.
What would you assume would be a fair price? I already have an offer from the client,
but I suspect it's not the best....

But you say you have the program; do you also have the film needing subtitles? If you don't, I wouldn't think you can quote at all as you'd need to have some idea of the work involved.

Once you have the file, I would advise you to work on a small sample and see how long it takes you. After all, however we quote (per word, per video/audio minute, per page, per job...), it all boils down to how much we want and/or need to earn in one hour.

Edited to say that this is a specialised job, so don't sell yourself short. We all know that "anyone who's bilingual can translate" is a fallacy. Well, I'm sure that many capable translators would be unable to handle subtitling. The constraints of the job are enormous - all those words spoken by multiple actors. How many can viewers read? How to choose the few words that will fit?

I can't even keep my forum posts concise!

Thanks!

Yes I have the film, and I have tested a bit, I also found out that the rates are generally higher than what this agency offers.
They would pay usd 4 per minute, film is 117 min, meaning I would earn 468 dollars.
I think I will turn it down.
