Although the majority of writers are not able to make a decent living, thus being unable to pay much for translations, Michael and Bernhard have gotten a valuable point across by listing a number of "if's".

So here's yet another "if": If you are interested in translating this book, then the fact is that what the author is willing to pay you upon the completed translation is basically all the income you can count on. Everything else is in a distant, uncertain future.

Unless you are asked to translate the Harry Potter books (highly unlikely), you can forget about any decent income from royalties, especially since you will have no control over the actual sales. ▲ Collapse
