I've been asked to quote for 'Polish to English Transcription'.
Having read a couple of the forum entries here, I know that many people have very strong feelings about being offered transcription jobs, but putting that aside, could someone sense check if the rates I'm planning to quote seem reasonable?

This is usually called multilanguage (or multilingual) transcription, a 2-step process involving transcription plus translation. | | | Min Xuanping China Local time: 17:28 Member English to Chinese + ... Your price is too low. | Nov 19 |
I charge 3 USD per minute for subtitling in Subtitle Edit or ArcTime because my maximum daily output is 20 minutes. I know I am slow, but 0.1 USD per minute is never acceptable. | | | Joanna Rączka Poland Local time: 10:28 Member (2009) English to Polish + ... Transcription definitely too low | Nov 25 |
Hi!
Audiovisual is charged per minute/per 10 minutes audio. Last year in Poland I had a rate of 200 zł per 10 minutes. This would make 1200 zł per hour, which is around 300$ per hour (not hour of my time though). And that job was transcription only. A Polish agency. As you know, Polish agencies are not among the most generous in the world, so if you have an inquire from a West European or US agency, you can charge more. Anyway, 30$ per hour is way too low. Your translation rate seems reasonable, certainly it would be reasonable for a regular translation job, yet for audiovisual you can demand more - it is not a normal text, there are time constraints, you must be more creative to make the translation shorter, so that when the text is spoken it does not take longer than the original. What is the purpose of the translation? Subtitling, dubbing or voiceover? ▲ Collapse | |

The transcription part will cost you more time than the translation part. Transcribing one audio minute typically takes 10 minutes of your time, and your 10 minutes is worthy of US$5-6. So, you should quote the transcription task at $300 - $360. | | | Karolina Wolska United Kingdom Local time: 09:28 English to Polish + ... TOPIC STARTER
