Visual Basic in Word 2010 for Windows? Thread poster: Heinrich Pesch

I heard that the new Office for Mac has Visual Basic re-instated, so users are able again to use tools like Wordfast Classic. I looked at the product page of Office 2010 for Windows, but there is not mentioning of Visual Basic. So I'd like to hear from users if it is true for the Windows version.

Hi,
My Office 2010 (with Outlook) has VB included. To find it, you may need to right-click on one of the ribbon tabs, select "customize the Ribbon", then under "Main Tabs" check the Developer ribbon. This should give you access to macros and VB.

Not a Mac user myself but look for Microsoft Word for Mac 2011.
Cheers,
Gerard
P.S. And Word for Windows 2010 supports VBA too, of course.

Hi Conrado,
You may find this item of the Wordfast FAQ useful:
Can I install Wordfast Classic into MS Word 2008 for Mac?
Please note that you cannot install Wordfast Classic into MS Word 2008 because Word 2008 does not support Visual Basic which is required for Wordfast Classic. So, you can install Wordfast Classic into an earlier version of MS Word for Mac, typically MS Word 2004.

Otherwise, you can use Wordfast Professional, the stand-alone application, which does not depend on MS Word.
Best,

Yes, Word for Mac 2011 does support VBA, see Microsoft's website:
File formats that work with Visual Basic
- Word Macro-Enabled Document (.docm)
The XML-based document format that preserves VBA macro code. VBA macros run in Word 2011, but they do not run in Word 2008.
- Word Macro-Enabled Template (.dotm)
Saves the document as an XML-based template that preserves VBA macro code. VBA macros run in Word 2011, but they do not run in Word 2008.

and, on WF's website:
- 5.92b 05 Nov 2010
Better support for Word 2007, Word 2010, Word 2011, and 32-bit Windows.
- 5.91i 16 Aug 2010
Minor adjustments:
Toolbar redesign; Mac support overhauled. The Toolbar may shrink: see Setup > View > Automatically shrink the toolbar
WF installs as follows on beta Word 2011/Mac, for those equipped: with Ms-Word's Tools / Add-Ons menu, open the wordfast.dot template, and/or have it checked.
- 5.90v 07 Jul 2010
Word 2007/Windows, Word 2010/Windows (in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes) are supported. Beta Word 2011/Mac has been tested and is running Wordfast now - yep, VBA is back on the Mac with Word 2011, and it's as fast as on a PC; use a manual installation.

Conrado,
I do not use Office 2011 for Mac yet, but in my Windows edition (MSO 2010 - which also supports VBA as Gerard confirmed), I can see a "Visual Basic" icon at the very beginning of the Developer Ribbon, on the left, in the "Code" category. Can you see it?
If you do and WF doesn't work, my understanding from WF's site (last line in the extract above) is that WF requires a manual installation in MSO 2011 for Mac. Did you follow these steps?
