Hi,
I've had a look through the forums and haven't seen anything regarding this so here goes....
When asking and especially answering Kudoz it would be extremly helpful if we had the option of putting what 'type' of Spanish is wanted. On many occasions I have answered a question, had the most agrees, and then the points have been awarded to someone else because the Asker wanted a non-Castillian version. On many occasions I have answered a question, had the most agrees, and then the points have been awarded to someone else because the Asker wanted a non-Castillian version. Now, this is fine and dandy, but if I had known from the start I would have either a) not answered or b) answered and advised that my version is for Spain and not expect to get the Kudoz points (the Agrees may then vote for the correct Spanish version)
Has anyone else found this to be the case? (Not just for Castillian Spanish, but any Spanish and/or other languages (UK/US English?) then have the points awarded to someone else just because of the location.
Could adding expanded languages be possible? ▲ Collapse | | | Good idea, but should be a seperate field | Apr 24, 2005 |
They should not be treated as seperate languages, otherwise we wouldn't see the questions unless we were registered as a user of every variant. This is currently what happens with Valencian. It's down as a seperate language from Catalan, which means that unless I add Valencian to my list of languages, I won't be sent the Kudoz questions. There could be one field as the language and another as the variant, which would be optional.

Yes this is what I meant.
For example on the Ask a Question Page when we select XXX to Spanish, we have a seprate drop down box to choose the Spanish variant so that we can specify what we are looking for, but this will still be under the Spanish pairs. | | | Robert Donahue (X) Russian to English + ... This is an issue that I run up against time and time again. I work in the Ru->En pair. The big problem is that a great deal of English grammar/language books are written in UK English. Quite often the askers make no distinction what market their text is intended for. So I've seen some answers accepted that wouldn't make a lick of sense to UK or US English speakers respectively. The more conscientious askers will specify UK or US but not always.
It might make sense to have a tab that reads English-UK/English-US/English-Generic. The issue then becomes the people who ignore this altogether (like the guy who has posted twenty something Spa->En posts in the En->En pair : ).

I know exactly what you mean. It's the same as the Askers who have asked 150, answered 0 and has 29 open questions from 6 months back. Grrrrrr!
But seriously, there are quite a few issues like that, wrong pairs, wrong level, whole sentences, 10 questions in a row. I do not think that there is a 100% way of solving all the Kudoz issues, but atleast if we are given these options/improvements the majority of us will use them. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Expand Kudoz Languages Pastey | Your smart companion app
