French term

carter

French to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial blast furnace
List of parts of a blast furnace to be lubricated

Gueulard: carter superieur
Gueulard: compartiment superieur carter

Gueulard, I believe, is 'throat' as for carter, maybe casing, armour.... not sump?

Anyone with any knowledge of this?
Much appreciated.

Hi, my previous note was about an answer that has disappeared! It was not in context anyway, hence my confusion!
Tony M Jan 11, 2006:
For sure it is part of the blast furnace. It's basic meaning is 'protective cover or guard' (sump, crankcase etc. are derivative meanings), so it's probably going to be something like that; sadly, despite all my 'hot air', I don't know anything about B/Fs
Amy Christie (asker) Jan 11, 2006:
I don't understand, is this a part of the furnace?

Gueulard = Blast furnace mouth ou blast furnace top

Pour carter, il s'agit plus sûrement d'un "guard". Dans ce
contexte, c'est plus une protection.
