Although it may in fact amount in practice to "non-lubricated", I think it would be somewhat over-interpreting to include that as the translation; there could be all sorts of "energetic" sex that might or might not be lubricated

That's also the kind of meaning I had understood, Tony, but I wasn't sure if it means "non-lubricated" as Drmanu suggested ou simply "energetic"

This is really quite an important point; I've just asked the opinion of my friend, a trained sex therapist, and he agrees that this is nothing to do with the fairly specific class of sexual activity generally referred to as "rough sex"

The dictionary definition of "rough" as "brutal" is really somewhat inappropriate here; it is the other end of the scale from "violent", and just means "a bit more energetic than usual". "Rough sex" would come across as too judgemental for the tone here

Here, I don't think it is referring to those various sexual practices usually lumped together as "rough sex", but rather, to sexual activity that is a bit "rough" — slight over-energetic!
